Columbia Forest Products Announces Staff Appointments

Columbia Forest Products, Greensboro, NC, has announced new appointments in support of its partnership with CalPlant 1, the rice straw MDF facility currently under construction. Wade Gregory has been named Senior Advisor, Steve Chavez has been promoted to Director of MDF Sales and Conrad Matthiessen will become the OEM Sales Manager for the facility.

The CalAg rice straw-based medium density fiberboard plant is becoming a reality. CalPlant I, as it is called, has completed and closed financing for a $315 million plant to be built in Willows, Calif. with a production capacity of 140MMSF (3/4 in. basis) and a startup goal of late 2018.

Construction has begun on Willows rice straw plant

Willows >> Work has begun on CalPlant 1 LLC, which will eventually be turning post-harvest rice straw into fiberboard for furniture construction.

For weeks, truck after truck has been delivering baled rice straw to the plant site on Highway 162 west of Willows. After weighing, trucks deliver their load to one of many long rows of bales, which could number 20 or more for storage.
